Eternal Life
  1. Search for Yahweh Your God. After the people of God have been scattered among the nations, Yahweh promised His children that they would find Him when they “search with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29). 1God used the words לְבָבְךָ֖ and נַפְשֶֽׁךָ.
  2. Love Yahweh Your God. Yahweh commanded His people to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your might (Deuteronomy 6:5). 2God used the words לְבָבְךָ֥ and נַפְשְׁךָ֖ and מְאֹדֶֽךָ. See also Deuteronomy 13:3. In Deuteronomy 30:6, Yahweh circumcises your heart so that you may love Him with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.
  3. Serve Yahweh Your God. God requires that His people serve Him with all your heart and all your soul (Deuteronomy 10:12). 3God used the words לְבָבְךָ֖ and נַפְשֶֽׁךָ. See also  Joshua 22:5 and 2 Chronicles 28:9 (and serve Him (“וְעָבְדֵ֗הוּ”) in heart (“בְּלֵ֤ב”) peace (“שָׁלֵם֙”) and soul (“וּבְנֶ֣פֶשׁ”) delighting (“חֲפֵצָ֔ה”); for Yahweh searches all hearts).
  4. Return to Yahweh. Yahweh described a time when “you listen to Yahweh your God to keep His commandment and His statutes, when you return to Yahweh with all your heart and soul” (Deuteronomy 30:10). 4God used the words תָשׁוּב֙ and  לְבָבְךָ֖ and נַפְשֶֽׁךָ. See also 1 Kings 8:48 and 2 Chronicles 6:38
  5. You Know. Near the end of his life, Joshua said that the people of Israel knew in all your hearts and all your souls that Yahweh kept His promises to them (Deuteronomy 23:14). 5God used the words לְבַבְכֶ֣ם and נַפְשְׁכֶ֗ם.
  6. God’s Heart and Soul. Yahweh Elohim of Israel said He would raise up a faithful priest to do according to all that is in His heart and soul, in contrast to the wicked priests who would be extinguished (1 Samuel 2:35). 6God used the words בִּלְבָבִ֥י and וּבְנַפְשִׁ֖י.
  7. Covenant with Yahweh. King Josiah cut a covenant with God and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all heart and all soul (2 Kings 23:3; 2 Chronicles 34:31). 7God used the words לֵ֣ב and נֶ֔פֶשׁ. The people under Josiah entered a covenant with Yahweh with all their heart and soul (2 Chronicles 15:12).
  8. Turned to Yahweh. Before Josiah was no king who turned to Yahweh with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might (2 Kings 23:25). 8God used the words שָׁ֤ב (see also “return” (same root) in Deuteronomy 30:10) and לְבָב֤וֹ and נַפְשׁוֹ֙ and מְאֹד֔וֹ.
  9. Seek Yahweh. Now give your heart and soul to seek Yahweh(1 Chronicles 22:19). 9God used the terms תְּנ֤וּ and לְבַבְכֶם֙ and וְנַפְשְׁכֶ֔ם and לִדְר֖וֹשׁ.
